Before your appointment
Consultations can be an overwhelming, but as a hairstylist, my goal to is to make you happy. The problem, every person has a slightly different happiness goal, and unfortunately, cannot read your mind.
Lets say,
(X) Is your specific hair, with its own history, and story, strength, texture, color, density, chemical makeup and its own reaction to environment (and with new clients this variable can be unknown.)
(Y) Is your vision for how you picture your hair to look to the world.
(Z) is how your hair looks when you leave your appointment.
So we have X + Y = Z and stylists need your help with X and Y so we get get to the perfect Z!
The more variables we can figure out, the closer we can get to your hair goals, which (of course) is my main goal!
I know you don’t always have all the answers to what exactly you want and that is okay! I promise, I am here to help, and the best way to find out is asking a lot of questions. I know all this can feel like a lot, but stylist ask them for a reason, because we care!
So I created a little “pre-appointment guideline” of questions we like to ask, to give you a little time to think and process what you want before feeling put on the spot in a consultation.
Have you been looking at photos? Photos are great GUIDELINES, they can help us pin point certain aspects of a hair style that might be attracting you to them.
What hair services have you had in the past 3 years?
How much time are you willing to spend at each appointment?
How often are you willing to be at the salon?
How much money do you want to invest in your hair?
Some colors and styles require a lot of upkeep. Some last a little longer between appointments. Either way is 100% okay! Just be honest with yourself and your stylist and we can set you on the right path for continuously loving your hair.
Are you looking for a dramatic or a subtle change?
Do you have concerns of being either too light or too dark?
Do you like having contrast, dimension, or one all over color.
Are you looking to go lighter, darker or maintain your current level.
Are you looking to warm up your hair tone (i.e. honeys, reds and rich Hues) To cool down your hair (silvery, ash and violet and white Hues)
How has your hair reacted to past color and/or cuts.
Have you had anything you didn’t like and what don’t you like in general.
What kind of at home care are you willing to do and invest in.
Its is also important to keep in mind that great hair color can take patience and time. Depending on where you are starting, it can take a couple sessions to get you were you need to go. Creating a journey with your stylist and keeping to a plan is important. Stylist have your best hair intention in mind, because your hair is our art.
